MERRY CHRISTMAS

I HEARD THE BELLS
ON CHRISTMAS DAY
THEIR OLD, FAMILIAR
CAROLS PLAY,
AND WILD AND SWEET
THE WORDS REPEAT
OF PEACE ON EARTH,
GOOD-WILL TO MEN!

TRASHING THE PLANET

Detail from a Bank of the Planet advertisement

YOU NEEDN'T KNOW PORTUGUESE to capture the meaning of
the pictures below.

Our marvelous way of life is built upon an ever growing pile of
garbage that is ravenously devouring lands and oceans while
we keep adding to the stockpile completely oblivious to the
ultimate consequences of our folly.

As we prepare to welcome a new year, let us consider our role as
consumers and the ways that all of us, both as individuals and as
a group, can reduce the amount of garbage we produce through
a more careful selection of what we buy.

Buy based on need, avoid plastic and foam whenever possible,
compost if you can, reuse, recycle, reduce. It's a wonderful world
out there, let us work to make it a cleaner, more sustainable, more
livable planet.

Happy holidays!

THE MAGIC of Jacquie Lawson

© Jacquie Lawson

Jacquie Lawson animated
e-card usually comes to life with an
invitation for  you to click on some
section or element of the card at
which point the magic begins.

In her beautiful Christmas card titled "Northern Lights & Cardinals,"
snow falls over a pristine country landscape rousing cardinals
from their slumber to begin decorating a noble pine tree. Various
animals then gather by the dazzling Christmas tree, a beacon of
light in the darkness of night.

The animated vignettes that Lawson and her team of talented
colleagues create are sweet, charming, and rendered in exquisite
detail,  the musical background a perfect complement to the little
stories unfolding.

Trained as an illustrator at London's prestigious Saint Martin's School
of Art, Lawson launched her online card business in 2002 with only
five cards, a portfolio that now tops 312 cards, all of which are
available to anyone who becomes a member.

A one year membership is $12, two years is $18. Payment options
include Paypal, credit or debit card, you can even send a check
or money order. Check her website at:
